Job summary
This is a CT-equivalent post aimed at those new to the specialty, or with less than 3 years prior experience in Anaesthesia. Our department also hosts deanery core trainees and we aim to replicate the formal Core Training curriculum, as relevant to existing experience.
This post is for a fixed term period.
Main duties of the job
On-call work will then involve covering the 1st on-call, covering the emergency theatre. This is one of 4 resident rotas providing 24/7 cover. There is readily-available consultant support.
The post involves working a 1 in 9 pattern of on-call:
- Long days (including 1 in 9 weekends) 08:00 to 20:30
- Nights 20:00-08:30
- The above is in addition to standard days 0800 to 1700 in operating theatres or ICU.
On-call shifts are allocated according to a request rota, with appropriate compensatory rest periods.

During this period, the post-holder will not be expected to cover on-call duties, and will receive the base salary only. Depending on prior experience and the needs of the service, out-of-hours on-call work covering the ITU may be offered during this period, renumerated accordingly.
