This is a very exciting time for the development of Urgent Care across north Wales. In the last few years the Health Board have been working hard, developing new ways of working to ensure that patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician, in the right place at the right time.
The West Area team are looking for a GP to work across the 3 Urgent Primary Care Centres situated across Gwynedd & Anglesey (Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley, Holyhead & Ysbyty Alltwen, Tremadog). Centres open 9.00am - 6.00pm
The UPCC service will be run by a multi-disciplinary team of General Practitioners, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Therapy staff, Triage Nurses and Administration support staff.
These multi-disciplinary centres aim to provide an alternative pathway for patients with acute onset, non-complex conditions along with category 4 & 5 (classed as minor) to be assess and treated, either through direct referral from GP Practices or following re-direction from the Emergency Department, GP Out of Hours or Community Pharmacy.
This transformative and realistic new service model will help alleviate the pressures on our Primary Care services and our Emergency Departments whilst also increase the service provision within our community settings.
Main duties of the job
- Providing high quality urgent primary care for residents and visitors to North Wales with acute, non-complex conditions together with categories 4 and 5 (classified as minor) for assessment and treatment. For some patients their first language may not be English.
- Carry out clinical assessment of patients and respond to their medical problems by taking history, examination, investigation where appropriate, diagnosis, treatment and referral as required.
- Alleviate pressure on our Primary Care services and Emergency Departments while also increasing service provision in our community settings.

The advertised post is for a Lead GP to commence as soon as possible. Participation is required in mandatory training, appraisal and departmental governance activities.
The post holder will be a fully participative member of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. As part of the urgent Primary Care team duties will include consultation by phone and video where appropriate, appointments within the treatment centre and any administration associated with care of the patient.
