Emergency Medicine Consultant (2 Posts)
Wrexham Maelor Hospital, North Wales
Are you a "hands on" Emergency Physician? Do you want to be part of a senior delivered service? Then this could be the job for you.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for 2 enthusiastic, dynamic Emergency Physicians to join our consultant team in Wrexham. We provide a senior delivered service for adults and children and have a reputation for being at the leading edge of modern emergency care in the UK. We receive major trauma as a Trauma Unit, our designated Trauma Centre being more than 45 minutes away. The department sees around 65,000 new patients a year.
We provide extended shop floor hours in a way that is sustainable long-term, and also have excellent retention of 'middle grade' Specialty Doctors. The department is supported by Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Cardiac Nurses, Physiotherapy Practitioners and an excellent 24 hour Psychiatric Liaison service.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated Emergency Physician to deliver high quality, effective clinical care in a busy modern District General Emergency Department. Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist
Register or within 6 months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training at the time of interview. Applications are encouraged from candidates who have a special area of interest such as Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Paediatrics, Ambulatory Care or Teaching and Training.
About us
We have excellent relationships with colleagues in other specialties. Our ED host higher specialty trainees and medical students. We are looking for a motivated consultant to join our team.
Wrexham is conveniently located to provide easy access to the North Wales coast, countryside and Snowdonia National Park. Housing is extremely affordable and varies from urban to rural locations that are all still within 10-20 minutes commute to the hospital. The city of Chester is only 12 miles away and it is also less than an hour to the major cities of Manchester and Liverpool. There are excellent rail and road links to the rest of the UK.
It is anticipated that successful applicants will have a job plan which includes clear demarcation between clinical duties and protected SPA time, with generous remuneration for out of hours working. Due to the flexible nature of the rota, there is ample opportunity to take study and professional leave as well as develop any special interests, and this is fully supported within the department and the Health Board. The contract is for 11 PAs of which 8 are DCC.
