This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated pharmacist to join the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB)Prescribing Support Pharmacy team. The post holder will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and will be responsible for implementation and management of the Blueteq High-Cost Drugs system, and high-cost medicines governance across ABUHB. The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the Principal Pharmacist for Prescribing Support and the Programme Divisional Pharmacists. This is a highly influential role that combines clinical pharmacy practice, service development and financial stewardship. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, effective, evidence-based and financially responsible use of high-cost medicines across multiple clinical specialties, while providing expert hospital clinical pharmacy services, including ward-based care and dispensary cover. The successful candidate will be an experienced clinical pharmacist who enjoys working at both strategic and operational levels, with the confidence to influence clinical practice and manage complex medicines governance agendas
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the implementation, maintenance and governance of the Blueteq High-Cost Drugs system across ABUHB.
- Developing robust approval processes for high-cost medicines in line with national guidelines.
- Analysing data from software such as the Blueteq High-Cost Drugs system to provide strategic financial and clinical insight to Divisions and senior stakeholders.
- Working closely with clinical teams, finance, digital, pharmacy colleagues and national networks.
- Providing prescribing support services and supporting implementation of new high-cost medicines.
- Working with the homecare team to implement homecare services for high-cost medicines.
- Delivering advanced clinical pharmacy services, including ward-based care and dispensary cover.
- Line managing the High-Cost Medicines and Prescribing Support technician.
- Providing education and training for pharmacy staff and wider healthcare professionals.
- Deputising for the Programme Divisional pharmacists as required.
This role will be challenging but immensely rewarding. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop influencing and project management skills, as well as hone your clinical pharmacy skills.
