Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a motivated professional who is passionate about Health Improvement to join our team. The local Health Improvement team works across five local authority areas and sits within the wider Gwent Public Health team. As a Senior Public Health Practitioner, you will work in collaboration with a range of partners to deliver our objectives.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate their ability to work in partnership with other agencies and be able to manage conflicting perspectives. Key working relationships (internal and external) include fellow Public Health team members, other ABUHB departments, Public Health Wales, other Health Boards, Local Authorities and Third Sector partners.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead the coordination of Safer Communities work across the Gwent Public Health Team and support the development of the Gwent strategic vision and public health approach in this area.

The successful candidate will support and lead the integration of public health into safer communities across Gwent. The post will lead by developing, delivering and evaluating interventions, working with multi-agency partners to reduce harm, promote wellbeing and address inequalities. The role will help ensure that community safety strategies, policies and practices are evidence based, preventative, promote resilience and are aligned with the wider determinants of health agenda.

If successful you will be asked to focus on defined areas of work to include violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence and serious violence. You will be working closely with colleagues in related areas such as drug and alcohol, mental health, adverse childhood experiences and inclusion health. However, as per the requirements of the service you may be required to work across a range of health improvement portfolio areas.
