Job summary
To provide expert care, highly specialist advice and support to patients with Lung Cancer and their carers. In addition, the post holder is expected to provide clinical leadership within this area of care to develop education and research relevant to the specialty.This post will work together with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive service to patients with Lung Cancer.The post holder will provide highly specialist nursing knowledge and expertise on the various aspects of Lung Cancer care.The post holder will have a major role in the development of the Lung Cancer services ensuring this relates to the needs of the patients and are in line with the NHS plan.The post holder will act as the key worker and will liaise with other healthcare professionals including the Primary Health Care Team in order to provide the best possible care for patients ensuring co-ordination and continuity of care from initial diagnosis to treatment for Lung Cancer patients.
Main duties of the job
To lead and carry out the assessment, planning and implementation of programmes of care for patients with lung cancer, providing support and guidance for patients and all staff involved in the delivery of their care.Use expert Lung Cancer knowledge and specialist skills to analyse and make decisions in relation to patient risk and care in complex cases.
To communicate sensitive, condition related information to patients with lung cancer, to utilise empathy and reassurance skills.To undertake clinical skills to include - removal of sutures following thoracoscopy, intramuscular injections and venepunctureTo lead and monitor workload and workforce resources.To provide strong leadership in the delivery of Lung Cancer
