Job summary
The HIV and Sexual Health Services Team at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) consists of pharmacy team including a Specialist Pharmacist and pharmacy technicians that work as an integrated team within the multidisciplinary setting to deliver the clinical pharmacy service to service users. The post holder will be the Specialist Pharmacist leading the delivery of the daily pharmacy service to HIV patients within the outpatient setting, leading clinics, completing drug histories and medicines reconciliation and delivering highly specialised patient counselling in relation to their prescribed medication regimes. There is the opportunity to become an independent prescriber within the HIV specialty to facilitate the prescribing of medicines alongside consultant medical colleagues in a specialist service setting.

Main duties of the job
As the Specialist 8A Pharmacist you will lead the pharmacy HIV and Sexual Health Service and support the pharmacy senior management team in areas such as clinical audit, implementation of medicines optimisation strategies and service improvements, aimed at enhancing the benefits that the pharmacy team bring to the HIV and Sexual Health Services.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing high quality pharmaceutical care and a clinical pharmacy service to wards and clinical areas, within a multidisciplinary sexual health services team.
- Taking drug histories, medicines reconciliation and counselling of patients.
- Medicines optimisation and timely medicines supply for specialist and supportive medications, including the use of homecare.
- Supplying specialist medicines via approved PGD's and where required running of pharmacist led-clinics within HIV.
- Leading on the monitoring of, and reporting on, medicines expenditure, risk management, clinical governance and medicines safety within the speciality.
- Supporting the development and implementation of guidelines, policies and procedures including patient group directives (PGD's) within the Sexual Health service.
- Advising healthcare professionals on the safe use of contraceptives and promoting antimicrobial stewardship.
- Supporting the education and development of junior staff and pharmacy undergraduates.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
