The closing date is 29 June 2025

Job summary

Diabetes Specialist Dietitian Development post (Annex 21)

Are you a Dietitian looking to develop your skills in the rewarding speciality of Diabetes? We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative dietitian with some existing post registration experience to join us to cover this role 30 hours a week.

Whilst some previous experience and post registration training in this speciality is ideal, we will consider those who haven't, to undertake a one-year training competency framework under Annex 21 Band 6. During this year you will obtain the relevant training and experience to meet the full competency framework of this Band 6 role and will be able to undertake all duties within this specialist dietitian job description.

We will also support your development within this role via our CPD programme and regular reviews with the relevant Lead Dietitians. Funding to complete related courses e.g. DAFNE educator, or relevant BDA courses will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Your role will primarily involve dietetic care of Diabetes patients in the outpatient setting across ABUHB via a mixture of face to face, video and telephone clinics and group education in face to face groups or via MS Teams. However you will also have some opportunity to cover inpatient work alongside the Diabetes Inpatient Care and Education (DICE) multidisciplinary team in the acute hospital setting. The base for this role will be agreed with the successful candidate as we have diabetes specialist dietitians and supportive multidisciplinary teams working from all four acute hospital sites in Gwent.

The Diabetes Dietitians work as part of the team of 30+ acute dietitians working across the specialities of Nutrition Support, Gastroenterology, Stroke, Oncology and Diabetes and work with a team of 13 dietetic support and admin staff. We actively participate in the dietetic student training programme for Wales and this year are piloting the new BDA Common Assessment Tool.

Our core department hours are 8.30 - 4.30 but we work flexibly and within our guidance there will be scope for you to adjust working hours to fit around personal commitments.

This post is advertised as part time 30 hours a week to suit the needs of the service but alternative hours will be considered.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
