Back up Medical Secretary Neurology
To provide medical, secretarial and administrative service to Consultants to and team, including covering duties of the medical secretaries as required.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated back up medical secretary to join us within Neurology based at the Royal Gwent Hospital
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work.
You must be able to work on your initiative use, tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.
Audio typing skills are essential. Knowledge of hospital systems would be beneficial although full training will be given to the successful candidate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Responsibilities:
To provide back up support including audio typing service to Consultants and multi disciplinary teams, including typing patient clinic letters. Provide typing support where necessary to medical secretaries including results letters and other authorised reports and correspondence and actioning outcomes where applicable.
Filing and maintenance of patient case notes and other records including timely maintenance of Trust electronic patient information systems
Answer and action telephone enquiries from General Practitioners, other other hospitals, patients, patients relatives on behalf of the Consultant
Liaise with other personnel (i.e. Medical Records staff, Scheduling Teams) regarding the arrangement of follow-up appointments, on-going referrals to other departments, and generally assist with the smooth running of the service.
Deputise for the medical secretaries as required.
