Job summary
Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.
o To support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
o To assist patients to achieve physical spiritual and psychological comfort.
o To participate in the delivery of patients care and undertake clinical duties that are allocated and directly supervised by a registered nurse.
o Exchanges factual information with patients using persuasion, reassurance, tact, empathy; may be barriers to understanding.
o To share with Team Leader information relating to the patients care. o Assist with patients nutritional needs to include feeding assistance.
o To report any changes in a patient's condition to the nurse in charge and respond to clinical urgencies.

Main duties of the job
o To utilise customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives
o To maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients
o To assist the qualified nurse in recording and maintaining documentation
o To establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, relatives and members of the inter-disciplinary team.
o To work as a key member of the team with the patient to reach your negotiated goals
o Assist staff as necessary with the smooth running of their areas.
o To act always in accordance with ABUHB policies and procedures
o To ensure all accidents, incidents and complaints are reported and to assist in the investigation of them
o To attend and participate in ward/department/area meetings
o To report any concerns regarding patient care or environment to the Nurse in Charge.
o To be aware of Clinical Governance and act within the ABUHB Clinical Governance framework.
o To undertake and participate in statutory training and in service Programmes
o To participate in annual personal review being cognisant of service needs
o To have basic computer skills Speciality Specific Activities
o Maintenance of a clean environment and the equipment used
o Maintain stock levels & the putting away of delivered stores
o Be proficient & perform record keeping as appropriate. Recording the observations e.g., fluid balance, stool charts etc
o Performing BM's for Blood Glucose monitoring
o Assists patients with personal needs
