Job summary
We are seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist with ERCP to join our expanding team in specialist Endoscopy andHepato-biliary medicine. The candidate will be working alongside two experienced consultant gastroenterologists with a specialist interest in ERCP/EUS as well as a team of skilled endoscopy nurses.
In 2021, The Grange University Hospital was opened, designed as an in-patient focused hospital; Gastroenterology provides 4 in-patient ERCP list a week and regular outpatient ERCP and EUS lists in Royal Gwent Hospital.
Our team look forward to welcoming a candidate with a sound base in ERCP who is keen to put their skills to use in developing this expanding and forward-thinking service. Our hepato-biliary team also perform EUS, with procedures including pancreatic cyst drainage, stent insertion and spyglass ERCP in addition to routine diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
We welcome applications from both skilled and advanced ERCP practitioners.The gastroenterology department currently consists of 7 consultants specialising in inflammatory bowel disease,nutrition, and general gastroenterology and 6 consultants specialising in Hepatology and Hepatobiliary Medicine. Ourconsultant workforce is supported by a range of specialist nurses in Hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease andendoscopy as well as a team of ward based junior doctors and physician's associates.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint a Gastroenterologist/ Hepatologist who is signed off for ERCP. 10 sessions will be split between ERCP (plus EUS and stent insertion depending on clinical skills) and outpatient clinics, with an aim to provide both specialist Hepatobiliary clinic and General Gastroenterology clinic.
The endoscopy unit in Royal Gwent Hospital operates 7 days a week, therefore this role will include 1 in 4 weekends,with general diagnostic endoscopy (not ERCP), with timetabled rest days during the week.
There will be no requirement for out of hours on call for GI bleeds. We are happy to consider other services or interests that candidates can bring to the health board if there is an unmet clinical need, however, the focus of this role will be working alongside our innovative and enthusiastic ERCP team. Integral to the responsibilities of this senior post are the following requirements:-
- To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board
