Job summary

Has overall shift responsibility for the co-ordination of the obstetric unit. Acts as site lead in the absence of the Senior Midwife Managers including out of hours. Provides clinical leadership for midwives working within the Labour ward Obstetric Theatres, High Dependency areas and TRIAGE unit. Supports the Senior Midwife manager in the day to day management of a designated group of midwives in the hospital setting, and the antenatal/ postnatal ward, including workforce planning, skill mix reviews, recruitment, performance (PADR) reviews and management, sickness reporting.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership based on current evidence, acting as a role model to all members of the team to encourage delivery of a quality service which provides safe, effective and sensitive care

Together with the Senior Midwifery Manager for Labour Ward, and the Head of Midwifery develop the Midwifery Service supporting a philosophy of normality within the obstetric setting and promoting evidence based care in line with local and national guidance.

Deal with problematic, sensitive or contentious issues and work collaboratively in partnership with multi-professional and multi agency teams.

This post is Fixed Term/Secondment for 12 months due to the needs of the service
