The closing date is 30 September 2024

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (16 hours) Occupational Therapy Technician. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the occupational therapy assessment process and provide occupational therapy intervention programmes to individuals that present with complex mental health needs who are accessing support from the pan-Gwent, Hiraeth Service.

The team aims to engage and empower individuals who present with complex difficulties associated with a high level of clinical risk. This refers to individuals who present with needs that cannot, or are not, typically being met by their current service. These might include those who are 'stuck' in the system, have had repeated inpatient admissions, or where teams experience difficulty in working, through the available treatment pathway. The team supports individuals and the system around them to enable individuals to progress and fulfil their potential for recovery by working alongside individuals and their care teams, enhancing the support already offered.

The Hiraeth team are multidisciplinary, consisting of mental health nurses, an occupational therapist, an occupational therapy technician, psychologists and an administrator. The team work within their core values of compassion, hope, creativity, innovation and collaboration, to provide person centred, trauma informed, and strengths focused care.

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapy service is underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the post holder will be supported to use appropriate MOHO assessment tools. The occupation-focused 'Discovery through Activity' programme is also established across the service.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively across wide-ranging services and agencies to support a programme of recovery and social inclusion.

The successful applicant will have excellent communications skills, will think creatively and flexibly and will be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion, and the values of person-centred care.

The ABUHB Occupational Therapy service is dedicated to delivering a high-quality service and therefore requires that all OT Technicians have or are committed to engage in completion of a Level 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner apprenticeship which offers excellent opportunity for development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
