Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ophthalmology department of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Due to ongoing service demands and the need to develop a new innovative design to service delivery there is the need to recruit a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in cataracts.
The Regional Ophthalmology Programme is an ambitious programme of service transformation, working across health board boundaries to deliver sustainable services, high quality care and improved outcome to patients in a timely way. The Regional Programme covers Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff and Vale and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Boards and is developing projects and change activities where working regionally adds value and aligns with the regionally agreed strategy.
One of the regional projects is the development of a Cataracts Unit in Nevill Hall Hospital to treat patients from across the region using high flow principles. The new unit set up aims to incorporate best practice into all areas of service delivery in the unit and the new role of [consultant] provides the opportunity to influence and shape clinical practice in this area.
The successful candidate would undertake cataract surgery and have experience of delivery of high flow lists.
Main duties of the job
The post comprises 10 sessions with 7 DCCs and 3 SPA's.The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota (1 in 11). The number of SPA's may vary with the agreement of the post holder and the Health Board in advance or after commencement.
The successful applicant will be expected to be involved with teaching of Ophthalmic trainees as well as engaging with medical students, optometry students and postgraduate optometrists undertaking higher qualifications in Glaucoma which leads to provision of enhanced shared care services.
To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans
To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the speciality, the Medical Division or the Health Board
