Job summary

This post is recruited and employed by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. The Macmillan Benefits Adviser will work mainly with those affected by a cancer diagnosis - maximizing their benefit income, including appeal representation.The post holder will undertake casework, assisting clients to access their entitlements to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help. Substantial recent benefit casework experience is an essential requirement of this job, preferably including working to a recognized Quality Standard.You will work in close partnership with health and other professionals to advise this client group, delivering advice clinics through health sector settings.You will also be involved in delivering training and information sessions and producing information materials. Experience in these areas would be an advantage. A desire to promote income maximization and an understanding of the causes and effects of poverty are essential.Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure requiredThe ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide support in the provision of cancer Information and Support Service across Gwent.

The post holder will provide advice, consultancy liaising with health and social care staff, whilst maintaining a Health Board wide perspective.

To deliver services by phone, email and in person in the hospital setting and in exceptional circumstance undertake home visits.
