Job summary
The Associate Practitioner in Audiology will provide interventions with routine / non complex hearing pathologies / disabilities, identify hearing loss and making onward referrals as required. The role will involve developing the individual care / management plan with appropriate accountability to the Audiologist. The Associate Practitioner will work closely with memory care services to support initial identification of hearing loss and provide advice and support for hearing aid management in both a hospital and community-based setting. The Associate Practitioner will have appropriate education, training and skills in hearing testing and fitting of hearing aids, and will work to locally and nationally agreed protocols in conjunction with scope of practice and accountability. Indirect clinical supervision and mentoring will be available during the normal schedule of the working day.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to perform routine audiological investigations such as puretone audiometry, aural impressions, fitting of hearing aids, adjustments to the programming of hearing aid systems including real ear measurements under local clinical supervision or mentoring programmes both in community-based setting and in secondary care sites. They will also be expected to carry out domiciliary visits to housebound patients and visit patients on hospital wards to carry out hearing aid maintenance, adjustment or ear mould impressions. To provide and assist with basic adult hearing aid rehabilitation and (under supervision) to help deliver the patient individual management plan.
Associate audiologists will recognise their own limits of competence and levels of responsibility and autonomy at all times within the approved scope of practice. They will maintain their personal competence and work as a reflective practitioner in order to deliver high quality client care.
