Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide active peri-operative medical care to the patients with femoral fracture, under the supervision of the Orthogeriatrics Consultant at University Grange Hospital. Facilitation of post-surgical multidisciplinary rehabilitation and active discharge planning will be the key responsibility of the post holder at step-down service at Royal Gwent Hospital and Nevill Hall Hospital.
The Orthogeriatric service within the Trauma and Orthopaedic department, is based at Royal Gwent Hospital / Nevill Hall Hospital with liaison service at University Grange Hospital. There are four Orthogeriatric consultants, four hip fracture nurses, 1 specialty registrar, 2 specialty doctors, 3 senior clinical fellows, 2 foundation doctors and 3 GP trainees within the Orthogeriatric teams across the two step-down sites.
The post holder will work under the supervision of Orthogeriatric consultants at Royal Gwent Hospital/Nevill Hall Hospital and provide support to consultant ward round at University Grange Hospital on a rotational basis.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic unit is a busy unit at Grange University Hospital and there are approximately 800 femoral fracture patients are admitted each year. These patients are step-downed 2 days after femoral fracture surgery, to the local general hospitals including Royal Gwent Hospital and Nevil Hall Hospital.
