Assistant Podiatry Orthotic Technician

Job summary

Manufacturing insoles (foot orthoses) and other orthoses (bracing) including footwear adaptations to the prescription provided by Podiatrists and Orthotists.

Support clinical team within the clinical environment with clinical asks including fitting of orthotic products to patients.

Based at County Hospital in Griffithstown, you will be part of the MSK Podiatry and Orthotics teams providing high quality service to patients accessing the service.

You will need excellent hand eye coordination for high skilled manufacture and excellent communication skills throughout.

Main duties of the job

  • Manufacturing work involving grinding machinery and use of hand tools
  • In-putting information onto computer database
  • Coordinating delivery and fitting of orthotic products to patients
  • Communication with patients & team members
  • support the clinical team within the clinical environment.
  • Quality control
  • Stock taking
  • Ensuring a safe working environment

Job responsibilities

  • Autonomously manufacture, modify and repair complex functional foot orthoses, total contact orthoses, simple insoles, semi-bespokedevices, carbon fibre and plastic devices.
  • Manufacture, modification and repair of AFOs and other orthopaedic devices as required.
  • To assist Orthotic Technician in the day to day running of the Podiatry & orthotic service.
  • Orthotic manufacturing facility, including the safe competent use of high-speed grinding machinery, Vacuum formers, ovens, hot air guns, compressors with air tools and electric saw. This requires frequent exposure to noise, heat and fumes spending long periods of time in one position.
  • Receive and interpret complex prescriptions, liaising with workshop lead through the manufacture process giving advice and guidance on prescription formulation to Podiatrists & Orthotists.
  • To provide technical advice and knowledge to Podiatrists & Orthotists regarding orthopaedic devices and techniques for adaption, fitting and their material properties.
