Job summary

ABUHB Speech and Language Therapy is looking for a compassionate, bold, and connected leader to join our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Service.

If you are a registered Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with a passion for delivering a highly efficient and effective Speech and Language Therapy service, this would be an ideal opportunity for you. The post holder will have a wide experience of senior professional leadership within a speech and language therapy service. They will be competent in managing professional governance and have a well-developed skill set both clinically and professionally to ensure a safe, effective, and dynamic service is delivered. The post holders will have experience of influencing at a senior level, working with other professional managers across Therapies on directorate priorities and be passionate about taking the speech and language therapy profession forward through key quality improvements and working with stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will undertake the role of Deputy to the Head of Speech and Language Therapy within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and support the day-to-day operational management of the Speech and Language Therapy across the Health Board. They will provide professional leadership and undertake the operational management for a discrete area of the service, this will include direct clinical input on occasions.

They will work with the Head of Service and leadership team to plan and deliver the long-term departmental strategy, in line with organisational and professional direction, ensuring plans are developed in line with the prudent principles reflecting safety, quality, effectiveness and efficiency. The post holder will assist the Head of Service to identify needs, evaluate priorities and plan for the development of the service, seeking to introduce new developments, innovations and ensuring evidence-based intervention is implemented.

They will support the Head of Speech and Language Therapy in performance management of the Speech and Language Therapy Service to meet Health Board objectives including financial and Welsh Government targets, along with the planning and delivery of the governance agenda.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for a designated area of the budget. They will be responsible for holding budget for several service functions, within the overall service structure.
