Job summary

Successful candidates will be fully signed off in upper and lower GI endoscopy, with a preference for those with additional specialist endoscopy skills which may include bowel screening, chromo-endoscopy, EMR and complex polyps or other specialist techniques.

Alongside consultant posts, we are developing non-medical endoscopist roles to complement the existing team of 6. It is anticipated that the candidate will support trainees in endoscopy through the provision of a weekly dedicated training list.

The Gastroenterology department are recruiting for two roles specialising in endoscopy, 10 sessions will be split between endoscopy lists, including training, general gastroenterology clinics and attendance at suitable speciality related MDT. Time is provided in the job plan for admin work and SPA, with an expectation that some SPA time is dedicated to educational supervision. Please see later section for a template job description. Please note that this template is flexible and the distribution of non-working days will be agreed in discussion with successful candidates.

We are happy to consider other services or interests which candidates may bring to the health board if there is an unmet clinical need, however, the focus of this role will be to work alongside our existing team to develop a quality, high standard endoscopy service that provides 7 days a week service to patients in Aneurin Bevan.

Main duties of the job

We have built state of the art endoscopy centre, based in the Royal Gwent Hospital. This unit consists of four endoscopy theatres with plans to run a 7-day endoscopy service, meeting the challenges of an expanding need for endoscopy services, including government targets, bowel screening and patient need.

The post holder will work closely with the directorate, nursing staff and non-medical endoscopists to strive for excellence and uphold JAG standards.

The post holder will focus on endoscopy and additional skills or a willingness to upskill are welcomed.

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board
