Job summary

The eye clinic is a friendly environment where multi-professional working is encouraged. At Aneurin Bevan our Ophthalmic department, consisting of 11 Consultant Ophthalmogists, one Associate Specialist and 6 Optometrists who provides invaluable support to busy outpatient eye clinic.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Optometrist with excellent communication skills to join our team. We are actively involved in teaching and clinical audit.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post involves work across a variety of sub-specialties across the Ophthalmology Department, including, but not limited to theglaucoma, medical retina and core optometry services. Advanced Clinical Optometrists have the highest level of specialist clinicaltraining, knowledge, skills and experience exceeding that of both community and more traditional hospital eye service optometrists toprovide disease treatment, patient care and management of both optometric and specific ophthalmology caseloads

  • GOC registration as an optometrist with the 'independent prescribing of therapeutic drugs' specialty
  • BSc Hons Optometry or equivalent
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience PLUS Post-graduate qualification(s) relating to a highly specialist aspect of clinical optometry e.g. College of Optometrists Professional/Higher certificate / Diploma ( Glaucoma / Medical Retina)

Desirable

  • Member or Fellow of the College of Optometrists (MCOptom or FCOptom)
  • College of Optometrists Higher certificate in Medical Retina

Experience

  • Relevant specialist clinical experience optometric practice
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
