Job summary

We are looking for a Consultant to join the Trauma and Orthopaedics team in Aneurin Bevan.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Orthopaedic team and may be required to work at a number of sites within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to assist with the provision of a comprehensive trauma and orthopaedic service to a catchment population of over 550,000.

The Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics sits within the Scheduled Care Division of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and is committed to developing a modern, evidence based, multi-disciplinary focused service for the residents of Gwent. The post provides an excellent opportunity to join an established team committed to improving services within Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-

  • To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans

To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board

  • To delivery elective and fracture outpatient services
  • To deliver specialist elbow and shoulder treatment pathway
  • To support the trauma service as a dedicated team member
  • To participate in the dedicated consultant lead on-call trauma service
  • To support the department to work towards Welsh Government treatment guidelines for treatment and outpatient pathways as part of the post Covid recover.
  • Interface with nurse specialists, wider team, patients and families
  • Special interest activities to become an integral member of the complex elbow team
