Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a small, dynamic, service working in partnership between The Gwent Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service and Monmouthshire Children's Services. BASE (Building Attachments Security and Emotional Wellbeing) supports children and young people who are looked after and their carers. We believe that children and young people need access to safe and nurturing relationships, they deserve stable homes and they require positive experiences to promote their well-being and development. We also believe that professionals and carers have the right to feel confident and supported in their work with children and young people.

The post will be located in the BASE house in Abergavenny which serves as both our therapeutic space and our office space. You will also have the opportunity to work from home and will be provided with all equipment to enable you to do this.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be located within the BASE team which is part of The Gwent Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service. This gives the opportunity to develop close working relationships across a wide range of services enabling rich CPD opportunities and high levels of peer support.

The post is advertised as Band 8a but we would also invite newly qualified applicants to apply and start the role on Band 7. This would be with a clear plan of progression and development to progress to Band 8a and you would be provided with all the experiences and supervision required to achieve this.

The post holder will be part of a close, friendly team but you will also require skills to work independently. The role consists of direct work with children and young people, direct work with foster carers, consultation for a wide range of professionals, providing network meetings and training. The post holder will join a team comprising one other Clinical Psychologist, two Play Therapists and one Business Support Assistant.

You will need to be flexible, creative, and keen to learn. The ability to maintain good working relationships across agencies and with a variety of professionals is essential. In return, you will benefit from an extremely supportive team which aims to nurture professional growth whilst ensuring a high standard of service provision.
