Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of departmental reception, welcoming patients and visitors in an efficient and friendly way. Ensure that procedures for validating patient details are maintained in line with confidentiality, acting as a point of contact and provide a welcoming atmosphere to all visitors to the department.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To provide an efficient and welcoming service to patients, staff and relatives visiting the department. To reassure patients and have empathy toward both patients and their relatives.
To have an understanding of the department and hospital layout, to assist in directing patients to other areas when asked.
To provide an efficient and friendly telephony service, taking/forwarding messages.
Use initiative in dealing with enquiries and complaints from visitors in a professional way.
To reception and validate patient details and demographics, ensuring that any changes to patient details are updated on WelshPas.
To liaise with opticians and other departments regarding patients details/care as necessary.
To use persuasive skills and remain composed when dealing with patients who are abusive, irate or uncooperative to diffuse difficult situations.
To deal with voicemail promptly and efficiently
To process patient cancellations
To deal professionally with patient enquiries and ensure that all enquires are actioned in a timely manner.
To provide a positive image of the Health Board at all times.
To develop a good understanding of confidentiality, Data protection/GDPR and data quality.
To provide cover and assistance for colleagues during periods of leave/absence.
To work and communicate with Ophthalmology nurses and Consultants, and site staff at all times.
To be able to work in a pressurised environment where work can be frequently interrupted
