An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Health Care Support Worker (Level 3) to work with our primary care team at Brynmawr Medical Practice
Working within our multidisciplinary team of GPs, ANPs, Nurses and other health professionals. The post holder will be caring, compassionate and committed to providing the best service possible to our patients.
The successful applicant will be required to have achieved NVQ Level 3 Healthcare Assistant qualification or equivalent and have experience in the primary care setting.
Main duties of the job
Duties include:
- Recording of ECG's
- Phlebotomy
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Respiration rates
- Temperature
- Pulse
- Non-invasive oxygen saturation
- Height
- Weight
- Urinalysis
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Collect bodily fluids for investigation including sputum, faeces, urine, blood etc.
- diabetic foot checks
- Support registered nurses and clinical nurse specialists in the management of chronic disease and other clinics as require
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Key Responsibilities
- To assist the Healthcare Team in the clinical assessment and management of patients presenting for healthcare needs within a primary care setting.
- To undertake initial screening of new patients presenting at General Practices under the indirect supervision of a registered nurse.
- Undertake health screening, testing and clinical observations as required and documented prior to a clinical sessions.
- To be able to recognise normal range parameters of clinical testing and report to registered nurse when results out of protocol range.
- Carry out direct care duties under the delegation of a registered nurse e.g. phlebotomy, physiological observations, sample testing, ECG.
- To rotate as necessary between differing primary care establishments.
- To establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external agencies, interacting with patients and all colleagues in a professional manner.
- To implement care as planned and directed by the Registered Nurse, reporting any changes in the patients condition in a timely manner.
- To maintain written records of care in accordance with ABUHB and local policy.
- To maintain IT records, including inputting and extracting information.
- To promote health, prevent illness and encourage self-care as appropriate/applicable, taking account of the patients choice and preference.
- To act as chaperone during clinical sessions with the Healthcare Team and professionals as required.
