Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Booking and Scheduling Team Leader to work in the Regional Cataract Service, delivering change across Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff and Vale and Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health boards.
We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and has strong team leadership skills. The post holder will play a key part in delivering our transformation plans for Ophthalmology in the South East Wales Region
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This is a fixed term role until 31st August 2024 to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead thenew Regional Booking and Scheduling team for Cataracts and have proven experience in this field. Theteam leader will be responsible for working to ensure the delivery of key quality, performance and service improvements within the Clinical Service.
The new team will be a central link to booking and scheduling teams across the region and strong communication skills are vital. Other key contacts for the role include Directorate Managers, Medical Leads, Nursing Leads and the Regional Programme Team.

- The Regional Ophthalmology Booking and Scheduling Team Leader will provide operational leadership and oversight of the regional booking and scheduling team. The post holder will be required to act independently within appropriate organisational guidelines, deciding when they need to refer to their manager. This is highly operational role requiring logistical and organisational skills that will require the post holder to manage the allocation of patients through different activity routes on different sites within the region.
- The team leader will line manage the staff within the team that may be working remotely and/or based on different sites within the region and ensure that productivity and service levels within the team are maintained.
- The team leader will be responsible for performance reporting on the booking and scheduling activity within the team, generating reports and interpreting data. The post holder will provide robust narrative explanations for the peak and troughs in performance levels from the team and from the services that the team is booking into. The post holder will be responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the data and raise issues through the correct governance procedures
- The team leader will be responsible for maintaining and updating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the team and for developing any new procedures as the need arises
