Job summary
The post holder will work under the supervision of the Clinical Lead for Sleep services providing specialist sleep clinical service for the investigation and treatment of all sleep disorder: initiation of PAP device therapy; and inpatient, outpatient, domiciliary monitoring of patients, and help develop a system of telemonitoring of PAP device therapy. The primary base is St Woolos Hospital, but the post-holder will be required to conduct clinics at other hospitals within the Health Board.
The post holder will play a major role in providing the Sleep Disordered Breathing service within the Health Board, establishing patients onto treatment, and reviewing sleep patients in their own clinics, along with the ability to interpret and report on home sleep studies.
Main duties of the job
- To use specialist knowledge and communication skills with patients and carers when explaining and providing psychological support on diagnosis, treatment and symptom management.
- To provide empathy and reassurance regarding the potentially sensitive nature of the information being relayed to patients and relatives / carers.
- To act as a resource to provide specialist knowledge and expertise to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals.
- To provide patient education in a 1:1 and a group setting.
- To deal with clinical queries from new and long-term users of CPAP over the telephone
- To actively advise patients and carers on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
- To contribute to a climate where team members openly question and challenge the practice of others and where decision making can be openly debated and discussed.
