Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the AB Finance Costing Team. Candidates who do not meet the full criteria are encouraged to apply under the Annex 21 scheme. This is a 2 year development programme, which could suit maths, finance or data science graduates.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • a background in finance, systems, performance or information
  • significant analytical abilities with complex data e.g analysing 'big' data to decipher clear messages for decision making
  • excellent communication skills, able to present and explain complex data
  • strong interpersonal skills
  • proven project management
  • a continuous improvement mindset

The Annex 21 scheme would appeal to candidates looking to begin a great career working with NHS finance and patient information. Candidates will need to:

  • be energetic and determined to develop new skills
  • be comfortable working with large data, eg spreadsheets over 100k rows
  • have excellent excel skills, eg pivots, vlookup
  • have project or work experience using data analytics
  • be highly numerate and analytical
  • have good communication and presentation skills
  • be able to work to deadlines and manage own work
  • enjoy working with others and being part of a team

Full support will be provided over 2 years to reach Band 6 level. Salary annex:

  • 70% of band 6 top tier in year 1 and 75% in year 2
  • 100% of starting tier band 6 in year 3

Main duties of the job

The Costingteam are responsible for the development of the Health Board's Patient Level Information and Costing System (PLICS), which brings together patient activity with financial data. It provides a rich source of information to help understand how NHS resources are used. The role will require working with a wide range of stakeholders across both Finance and Clinical Services. It is a diverse and rewarding role that will allow you to help improve our patient services, financial sustainability and assist professionals in key decision-making

The Specialist Costing Analyst will be responsible for producing, analysing and developing high quality patient level costing information. The post holder will be working will large amounts of data.

Strong communication and presentation skills are as important as analytical ability, as the role will need to build relationships with feeder departments, also interpret, and provide advice to a wide range of information users.

The post holder will be expected to assist in driving continuous improvements and efficiencies.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
