Job summary

Experienced or newly qualified Physician Associates wanted to join our expanding team of Physician Associates ata caring, award-winning organisation and one of the largest Health Boards in Wales.

The Physician Associate will be encouraged to develop and enhance their skill set with regular personal appraisals and opportunities for development. You will have the opportunity to work across two subspecialties:

- Hepatology; Including patients with acute and chronic liver disease. You will be assisting in diagnosis, management and follow up planning. Learning procedures including ascitic taps and drains.

- Luminal; including acute GI bleeding and flare up of inflammatory bowel disease. You will have the opportunity to observe endoscopy procedures, understand more about how to diagnose and manage new and chronic inflammatory bowel disease and gain a deeper understanding of nutrition and the risks of re-feeding syndrome.

Gastroenterology and hepatology are dynamic specialities, you will also work with 12 dedicated and enthusiastic consultants, four SPR, five IMT and 3 foundation doctors, as well as a team of specialist nurses.

Main duties of the job

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 6 MONTHS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

  • Management of the inpatient list ensuring up to date location, diagnosis and job list.
  • Attendance at ward rounds (consultant 3 times a week, junior doctor 2 times a week).
  • Performing investigations within your level of competency, this may include blood taking, blood cultures, venflons, ascitic drain and tap.
  • Requesting investigations.
  • Reviewing patients who become unwell with the support of a physician.
  • Reviewing patients on SDEC, with the support of a physician.
  • Attendance at weekly MDT to discuss ward patients in hepatology.
  • Other duties depend on level of experience and interest.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
