Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated occupational therapist to join the adult mental health OT service rotating every 6 months between Adferiad ward at St Cadocs Hospital and Newport Assertive Outreach Team along with another senior occupational therapist. This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours a week. Hours of work are generally 9-5 Monday to Friday with potential for flexibility.

Adferiad ward is an acute, adult mental health ward, offering assessment and treatment to people aged 18 and over who live in the Newport and Lower Monmouthshire areas. In Newport Assertive Outreach Team the post holder will be responsible for care coordinating a caseload of service users who experience severe mental health difficulties and have additional complex care needs. The post holder will work closely alongside other team members, where the ethos of the team is to work within a 'whole team' approach. They will work collaboratively across the wide ranging multi-disciplinary services and agencies to provide effective delivery of health and social care, supporting a programme of recovery and social inclusion within this area of expertise.

Main duties of the job

Adferiad ward:The post holder will be required to use occupational therapy assessments and interventions to create patient focused recovery plans. 'Recovery Through Activity' has been introduced within the ward and community teams and this will continue to be embedded and developed. All occupational therapists have Model Of Human Occupation (MOHO) licenses and use MOHO assessment tools.

The post holder will work with a ward team of nursing, medical and psychology staff , as well as collaborating with the Occupational Therapist based in the Home treatment team. The post holder will supervise and work alongside a band 5 Occupational Therapist (rotational post) and an Occupational Therapy Support Worker. The Occupational Therapy team has developed excellent links with third sector and other local community organisations.

Assertive outreach:The post holder will be expected to develop close working relationships with the other community services , as well as developing a broad knowledge of the resources available across the borough. The post holder will be expected to support the team leader to achieve organisational targets and will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of working with adults with complex mental health needs is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
