Mental Health In-Reach to Schools Practitioner ~ Band 5
Following a successful pilot project, Welsh Government have funded a School Mental Health In-Reach Initiative on a Wales wide basis. The initiative aims to improve the well-being of pupils in High Schools and Primary Schools by developing school staff's skills and confidence to support pupils with lower-level mental health and well-being needs within their competence and within their role as teachers; and enabling access to specialist provision where this is indicated.
Our team plays a key role in delivering these outcomes by working in partnership with schools, providing consultation, supervision and training to teachers and other key professionals; and working collaboratively with staff at a range of levels and from a range of agencies to support a whole-school approach to improving mental well-being. Your role will be to support this work through providing direct clinical services (including assessment of need and provision of therapeutic interventions) as required as well as other supportive tasks relevant to the core remit of the service
Main duties of the job
Working with school staff and children and young people within a school environment, and with appropriate supervision and support, the post-holder will be expected:
To provide psychologically minded holistic mental health assessments within a contextual, normative and developmental framework.
To deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions (individual and group based).
To provide advice and information to school staff, including signposting to other sources of support.
To support onward referral to more appropriate community based or secondary and specialist services where indicated.
To develop and maintain close relationships with school service providers and staff from a range of statutory and non-statutory services, providing advice and support to promote the management of those with mental health needs.

The post holder will work as part of a newly established Mental Health In-Reach to Schools Team, who are part of the wider ABUHB CAMHs service within Gwent. The team are forward thinking and enthusiastic about working with colleagues in schools to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

Undertake holistic assessments, working collaboratively to co-produce a shared understanding of the individuals needs (formulation) and to jointly develop subsequent plans.
Deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions.
Engage individuals and, where appropriate, their schools as active partners in their treatment and support.
Support people to learn, develop and participate in society; to develop and maintain healthy relationships; and to achieve greater economic well-being, have a social life and accommodation that meets their needs.
Provide specialist knowledge in the care and treatment of children and young people experiencing a range of mental health problems or emotional distress relevant to the area of practice.
Develop competency in providing a portfolio of evidence based, time limited psychological interventions, either individually or group based which support recovery.
Engage in appropriate clinical supervision to support practice development as per the ABUHB supervision policy.
Measure the impact of support provided on peoples lives, their clinical presentation and the achievement of personal outcomes.
