We are seeking an experienced assistant psychologist who is excited about the opportunity to promote the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people with additional developmental or health needs. This post is being advertised as a full-time role spit across two services within the ABUHB Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service; the Helping Hands Psychology Service, which provides support to children with complex developmental delay and/or disability and their families, and the Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service, which provides support to children and young people with acute and chronic health conditions and their families. Both services also offer support to the multi-disciplinary allied health professionals working to support these families through training, advice, and consultation.

You will be joining two passionate, needs-led, services comprised of Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Counselling Psychologists and working closely with medical and AHP colleagues. Your Paediatric Clinical Psychology hours will be based at St Woolos Hospital, Newport, and you will join the Nevill Hall Children's Centre team with Helping Hands.

If you are interested in working with us then we would love to hear from you. Please contact Dr Charlotte Montgomery or Dr Anne Johnson on 01633 436996.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provision of high quality psychological information and advice, dissemination of specialist resources and workshops for families and staff
  2. Provision of psychological support, consultation and joint working with staff who are connected with the Children's Centres in Gwent and AHP who are supporting the needs of children and young people with acute or chronic health conditions
  3. Therapeutic work with children and young people with developmental delay or disability and therapeutic work with children and young people with acute or chronic health conditions through individual work, family work, and therapeutic groups

The successful candidate will join a lively and proactive team of Child Psychologists and Therapists. We meet weekly for professional support and peer supervision and value a culture of reflective practice and rich continuing professional development. Our team bases are both welcoming and supportive, enabling clinicians to hold a strong psychological perspective in the wide range of settings we deliver services across.

This post is fixed term for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.
