Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, full time (37.5 hours) Senior Occupational Therapist to join Newport West Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). The post holder will work under the direction of the Professional Lead OccupationalTherapist for the borough and supervise Occupational Therapy Support Worker.

The post holder will be required to use occupational therapy assessments and interventions to inform the overall assessment and recovery plan of service users. The occupational focused 'Recovery Through Activity' programme is established across the service . All occupational therapists have use of MOHO assessment tools. The role requires the ability to co-ordinate care for individuals with occupational needs and to undertake comprehensive Care and Treatment Planning assessments .

The post holder will work within a multi disciplinary team to provide assessment and recovery focused support. The team has developed excellent links with local third sector organisations and community resources in order to promote opportunities to engage in meaningful occupation.

The post is part of a wider network and professional structure of occupational therapists across the mental health and learning disabilities division with regular practice forums and workshop opportunities to drive occupational therapy development in inpatient, community and specialist settings.

Main duties of the job

Carry out specialist occupational therapy assessments in home and community settings.

Carry out and interpret formal standardised assessments.

Independently plan, implement, evaluate and review treatment plans on an individual and group basis.

Actively engage carers/families in the therapeutic process, motivating and supporting them to take responsibility for decision making and goal setting

Carry out Recovery through activity groups alongside the Occupational Therapy support worker and collaborate with third sector organisations.

Work autonomously tomanage and prioritise own caseload.

Carry out role of supervisor to Occupational Therapy support workers and educator to practice placement students.

Collaborate with others to modify and develop the service in line with changing circumstances and needs.

Function in a multi-disciplinary team identifying unique skills of the occupational therapist.

Maintain and actively develop close working relationships with colleagues across disciplines and agencies e.g. voluntary, statutory and private.

Carry out the role of care coordinator.

Assessand manage risk. Carry out written risk assessments.

Undertake generic duties to enable the service to function effectively such as assessment clinic and duty desk.
