Speech and Language Therapist - Gwent Youth Justice Services
Band 6, 26.25 hours a week, for 6 months
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and creative therapist to cover maternity leave (on a 0.7 whole time equivalent (26 hours 15 minutes per week) for 6 months) and work in the 3 Youth Offending/Justice Services (YO/JS) across Gwent.
These multi-agency teams work with children and young people who are part of the youth justice estate or prevention services. The post holder will deliver training to staff in the services and work with young people delivering the Speech and Language Therapy aspect of the Health Pathway for these children and young people. A day of the post will be working in the Pupil Referral Unit in the area ensuring they are able to support children with speech, language and communication needs in the setting.
Main duties of the job
You will need the ability to work flexibly, under direction and independently where necessary and have experience of working collaboratively and innovatively within a multi-agency setting. To assess young people's speech, language and communication needs and share information about this and strategies to support them with the family, YJS and education setting. Also, experience of providing training to professionals and demonstrating skills in organisation and IT. It is an opportunity to impact on and change the lives of vulnerable, young people.
Some of the hours for this post will continue beyond the maternity leave cover.
Professional management including regular clinical supervision will be provided by the Speech and Language Therapy service in addition to line-management from each of the Youth Offending/Justice Services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
