Job summary

We are seeking an ambitious, highly trained and committed Consultant Neurologist to join our existing team at ABUHB This job would be ideally suited for an applicant with epilepsy subspecialist interest, though consultants with other neurological specialist interests are also welcome to apply.

ABUHB currently has 10 Consultant Neurologists. The service is predominately outpatient focused with clinics across several sites. The service also provides a Neurologist of the Week service centred around acute Neurology presenting in our Unscheduled Care areas, while also providing on-going advice for patients admitted with Neurological conditions across multiple inpatient sites

The post we are offering comprises 10 sessions, which 3 are SPA activities. This will be important in the immediate term for service development but will also provide scope for research activity and teaching in the medium and longer-term. There is no out-of-hours on call commitment with this post at the current time, though the post holder would be expected to contribute to the in-hours 'Neurologist of the Week' service Monday to Friday. We are an active teaching University Health Board and would seek teaching commitments from a successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

As a senior employee of the health board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professionals and managerial colleagues in providing high quality health care to all ABUHB patients.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements

To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service

To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the speciality.

To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate

To undertake all work in accordance with the health boards procedures and operating policies

to conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the divisions health and service plans

to maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the speciality, the medical division or the health board

The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital. This statutory duty is in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with the post
