This is an exciting time to be joining the team with the opening this year a purpose built SDEC area within the critical care centre at the Grange University Hospital. This a recruitment is to support the expansion of acute medicine, moving us closer to delivering a comprehensive service. We have been lucky enough to procure Welsh Government funding, to build a Same Day Emergency Care ("SDEC") unit which will become fundamental to the functioning of the 'front door' in GUH.

We are dedicated to this change in process, having many years' track record of delivery of safe and effective 'ambulatory care' in both the Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall hospitals. The department is both experienced and successful in delivering this model of care, and with the opening of a fourth acute site we need further recruitment to maintain this delivery. The newly appointed AP's will play a vital role in enabling us to continue to deliver delivering ambulatory and same day emergency care to acute medical patients

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will join an established team of 10 physicians working in acute medicine who work flexibly to include both specialist interests and a work-life balance. We aim for a team of dedicated and enthusiastic physicians to manage medical patients at the front door 7 days per week.

The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.

The principle place of work is expected to be the Grange University hospital although sessions will also be available, following negotiation with the Clinical Director, in the other AMUs throughout the HB (NHH / RGH).

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-

  • To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty, and support junior staff members and allied health professionals to deliver the highest possible standard of care.
  • To sustain and develop teaching, quality improvement, and research wherever appropriate
