Clinical Development Fellow in Emergency Medicine

Based at Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, South East Wales

Full Time

Duration: Fixed Term Contract of 6 months initially

Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

These new 6 month posts are an innovation by the Emergency Medicine team at the Grange University Hospital

These clinical development fellows offer clinical experience in a busy and well supported Emergency Department with allocated time off the clinical rota for development in a number of innovative areas, including pre-hospital medicine, simulation and teaching.

They would particularly suit those who have passed their FY2 (or equivalent) competencies and have sound background knowledge of medicine, but may be undecided about their career pathway and/or would like to take time out of formal training.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults and children's barred list check

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Development Fellows will have time off their clinical rota dedicated to a specific area of interest that they can arrange prior to starting the post. The department is able to offer opportunities in the following but could offer other areas for specific candidates:

  • Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine
  • Simulation
  • Clinical Teaching and work towards a PGCert in Medical Education
  • Airway & Critical Care
  • Quality Improvement

Clinical Fellows in Emergency Medicine assume the responsibilities normally associated with junior grade appointment in Emergency Department, and have access to a full range of IT facilities within the department.

The Emergency Unit is a busy department supported by four Minor Injury Units which together see 120,000 new patient attendances per year, the team working and friendly atmosphere ensures the efficacy of the department. 25% of attendances are within the paediatric age group. The co-location of the paediatric assessment unit with the paediatric emergency department enables close working with our Child Health colleagues.
