Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Respiratory Physiologist to join the Lung Function team based at University Hospital Llandough (UHL) and University Hospital of Wales (UHW). This is a fixed term position for 9 months to cover maternity leave.
The successful candidate will play a large part in the Sleep Apnoea service, including performing and analysing the respiratory sleep studies , CPAP initiation and follow ups. They will also need to have experience in performing lung function tests, ear lobe blood gases, Challenge tests and assisting CPET. They will also be largely involved in the training of the BSc. Healthcare Science (Respiratory and Sleep) students and in-house Trainee Clinical Scientists.
Additionally, the successful applicant will need to have sufficient experience working as a band 5 Respiratory Physiologist role, or can demonstrate competency within all aspects of the band 6 job description and person specification and is ready for progression to a band 6. Trainee STP students due to finish in September 2026 are also welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job
-
To perform all basic and specialist Lung Function tests independently - including full lung function via a variety of lung volume methods, reversibility, challenge testing, field exercise testing
- To assist in Cardiopulmonary exercise tests for both lead physiologists and anaesthetists across University Hospital Llandough (UHL) and University Hospital of Wales (UHW) sites
- To perform Sleep Disordered Breathing tests and treatment independently, with focus particularly on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
- To take an active role in the training of junior staff, students, nurses and medical students.
- To help support the clerical administration and management of the department.
- To act as a senior member of the team in absence of the band 7/8
- To drive forwards new ideas and initiatives
