Main duties of the job

Step into the fast-paced world of Trauma & Orthopaedics, where no two days are the same and your work has a direct impact on patient care. As a Plaster Technician in our Trauma Outpatients Department, you'll be a vital member of the clinical team, providing specialist skills that help patients stabilise, heal and return to independence.

You'll manage your own caseload, carrying out delegated clinical tasks with confidence and accuracy. From applying and adjusting casts to supporting assessments and implementing care plans under the direction of a registered practitioner, you'll use your technical ability and problem-solving skills to deliver safe, high-quality care. Tasks outside the Band 4 scope are completed by the supervising registrant, ensuring you're supported while still enjoying meaningful autonomy.

Working closely with nurses, orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals, you'll contribute to a seamless, patient-centred service. Proximal supervision is always available, but you'll be trusted to use your judgement, knowing when to seek guidance.

You'll also play a key role in the smooth running of Trauma Outpatients by supporting colleagues, safely delegating tasks and helping to teach and assess unregistered staff and students within agreed protocols. Your calm approach and attention to detail will help busy clinics run efficiently, even when urgent plaster problems or unexpected injuries arrive at short notice.
