Job summary
We are looking for a registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the Aseptic Unit and Manufacturing team at SMPU.
We are looking for a dedicated individual who can demonstrate professional accountability to enhance patient care and who can provide maximum efficiency, safety and complianceto Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and EU Good Manufacturing Practice legislation.
The post holder will support the Aseptic Unit and Manufacturing team with the role to include aseptically preparing intravenous and intrathecal drug doses for individual patients, participate in the large-scale manufacture of medicines to use within the Cardiff and Vale UHB and to external customers. The postholder will need to have the ability to supervise and check the work of technicians and pharmacy assistants during production and support and mentor pharmacy assistants in the accurate and timely supply of medicines to wards, departments and clinics.
You will have good communication and supervisory skills, as well as good understanding of operation of aseptic services, safe handling prescription and use of cytotoxic drugs.
You will work as part of a specialised, friendly team whilst also working independently using your own initiative to manage problems, enquiries and urgent requests, referring to the senior technician or a pharmacist if necessary.
Main duties of the job
- Aseptically prepare intravenous and intrathecal drug doses for individual patients. This includes aseptic preparation of cytotoxic drugs, parenteral nutrition and other parenteral drug doses.
- Participate in the large-scale manufacture of medicines for use within the C&V UHB or for sale to other organisations.
- Confirm and document the completion and accuracy of critical stages in the preparation and manufacture process.
- Using equipment for aseptic and pharmacy manufacture. This includes, setting up, assisting in calibration, using, dismantling and cleaning after use.
- Supervise other pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians, rotational technicians, student technicians and pre-registration pharmacists during work sessions for sterile, aseptic manufacture, parenteral nutrition, cytotoxic doses or other parenteral drug doses.
- Train, support and mentor pharmacy assistants, in the accurate and timely supply of medicines to wards, departments and clinics.
- Work at all times in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures, current legislation and guidance (including Health and Safety, COSHH, Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, GMP and GCP).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
