Job summary

Are you enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about providing support to unpaid carers, helping them to navigate our Healthcare systems and settings?

If so we have an exciting new opportunity within the Patient Experience Team, for a part-time Unpaid Carer Support Worker. The project will see the postholder help to improve the hospital and discharge experiences of unpaid carers, by supporting them to be involved in the discharge process, and by being the point of contact for signposting and navigation of services.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate the core values as set out by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board;

Main duties of the job

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has implemented an exciting initiative to support unpaid carers while those they care for are in hospital under our care. The successful candidate will support unpaid carers throughout admission through to discharge, this will be in the form of emotional support, education and information.

The role will help to improve the hospital and discharge experience of unpaid carers, supporting them to be involved in the discharge process and informed of the support available to them.

The unpaid carer support worker will engage with unpaid carers on the Wards in a co-productive style to understand what matters to them, build relationships with colleagues internally and externally e.g. Social Services and develop links across third sector organisations, that support unpaid carers.

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31st March 2027 due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
