The Interventional Radiology department based at UHW Cardiff is a leading centre not only within Wales, but the U.K, and at the forefront of several exciting service developments.
This exciting developmental post offers an opportunity to become an important part of a specialised field of nursing that is different, challenging, yet also extremely satisfying.
The successful candidate will be welcomed by our friendly multidisciplinary team and supported to undertake a competency framework that will enable them to fulfil the role of a band 5 interventional radiology nurse initially, before progressing their skills to become a band 6 Interventional radiology nurse.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the interventional radiology team, based in Radiology, UHW Cardiff and with comprehensive training, will be accountable for the provision of specialist nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. This includes pre-assessment, interventional assistant, circulating nurse, administration of conscious sedation (as band 6 only) and recovery nurse for both planned & emergency radiology procedures.
Working hours 37.5hrs over 4 days of 0800-1800. 30 mins unpaid lunch.The post holder will also be expected to participate in a 24-hour on call service, essential to the status of the UHB as a major trauma centre. The post holder will be governed by radiation protection regulations (IR(ME)R 2017) and required to wear radiation protection clothing, sometimes for long periods of time whilst in the IR theatres.
An informal visit is highly recommended to familiarise yourself with this clothing and other aspects of this unique role.
The requirement to adapt to a pressurized environment characterized by frequent variation of work load and emergency situations is paramount, as is the ability to lead in these situations.
