Cardiff & Vale University Health Board are looking to recruit a number of phlebotomists.
We are looking to employ part time phlebotomists based at UHW site. The part time positions are various hours ranging from 20 to 34.5 hours per week, worked over 5 mornings per week The post holders will be required to work on rotation a Saturday or Sunday morning and bank holidays. On occasions the department will require a 7am service start advanced notice will be given.
As a phlebotomist, you will take blood samples from patients which are examined in a laboratory and the results can be used to quickly diagnose diseases and conditions. Phlebotomists are an instrumental part of the NHS team, making sure that the diagnosis of illness is done quickly and safely.
You don't need to have previous experience in this field - we work with you to help you become an excellent care worker.
The post will involve some travelling between sites within the University Health Board such as UHW, UHL, Barry Hospital, St Davids, the Emergency Unit and GP Practices, the ability to safely transport laboratory samples is essential - it is essential that you indicate how you will meet this essential requirement in your application.

Full training will be provided once you have secured the role. Phlebotomists are trained on the job from day 1, for up to 12 weeks. Following this 12 week period ongoing support will be provided. The training includes both theory and practical work including:
- how to take blood from different patient groups, including children and the elderly
- different ways to take blood
- health and safety
- anatomy and physiology
- labelling samples
