Job summary

Safeguarding Nurse Advisor for Children and Adults at Risk, working in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Post based mainly in the Health Board Headquarters in Heath area of Cardiff. Other work areas would be Cardiff University Hospital of Wales and Cardiff Bay Police Station MASH.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity for an innovative and motivated nurse with advanced knowledge of safeguarding and working as part of an experienced team has arisen within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Corporate Safeguarding Team.

This post will involve providing safeguarding advice and support to C&V UHB practitioners from a range of disciplines working with both children and adults at risk.

The diversity of this position will give the post holder the prospect of working in a number of locations across the C&V UHB locality. The team are co-located with multi-agency partners in the Cardiff Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, work directly with UHB practitioners in the Children's Hospital of Wales, UHW and C&V UHB Headquarters, Woodland House.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist advice and individual support to all UHB employees in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk in line with legislation and NICE Guidelines. They will work in partnership with statutory and third sector organisations communicating highly sensitive and complex information via multi-agency forums.

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring the quality and effectiveness of professional practice in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk whilst assisting in collecting statistical data in relation to families/ individuals of high concern and those on the child protection register. They will support and empower practitioners in communicating the highly sensitive and complex information to families/ individuals and review high concern families with health professionals through safeguarding supervision.

In collaboration with the Safeguarding Trainer, the post holder will review, develop and implement safeguarding training for UHB employees, and take an active role in multi-agency training. They will also be involved in the development to strategic/operational policies, procedures and protocols to support in the delivery of services in respect of safeguarding children and adults at risk.

The safeguarding team deliver an integrated approach across children and adults at risk, combining the current duties of safeguarding across the UHB. Future work will include co-location with professionals from other agencies in the Cardiff Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) subject to Police Security Vetting.
