Job summary

The newly refurbished Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the Children's Hospital for Wales admits approximately 600 babies per year. In addition to being a level three NICU we are the only neonatal surgical unit in Wales. We also provide care for babies from across Wales who require specialist tertiary care and those who receive antenatal care within the foetal medicine unit.

We are looking to recruit an experienced neonatal nurse to join our supportive and experienced senior nursing team who provide leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality, kind and compassionate care.

The unit provides a wealth of opportunities for ongoing development and experience within a supportive and friendly team. Nurses work in a variety of roles within the unit. We have a neonatal outreach team, a dedicated neonatal practice education team and an established team of advanced neonatal nurse practitioners. We are integrating FICare into our working practices to ensure we work collaboratively with the families on the unit.

Main duties of the job

The Neonatal Intensive Care is a 32 cot unit 8 ITU, 12 HD, 12 SC cots, offering both medical and surgical care to a wide range of infants from all over South Wales. The unit comprises of intensive care cots, high dependency cots and low dependency cots. This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated team delivering neonatal intensive care in Cardiff and The Vale at a time of planned expansion.

Successful candidates will need to be sensitive towards children and their families, maintain standards of confidentiality and uphold the values of the UHB. In addition the person should be professional, possess good communication skills, and have a flexible approach to working within the Neonatal care service.

You will be able to work in our service supporting the delivery of regional neonatal care and collaborative working with the Welsh Neonatal Network. There are great opportunities to make a difference within our evolving and positive team.
