Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to take up the position of a Pelvic Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7 working within the established Pelvic Health Service. We are looking for a caring and passionate CNS to provide high quality care for our bespoke patient centred service. This will include providing expert clinical assessment, evidence-based advice, education and referrals for diagnostic investigations for our patients.

You would set up and run nurse-led clinics to support patients managing through their pelvic floor symptoms, demonstrating your autonomy with complex cases whilst having the initiative for when appropriate to refer back to consultant care.

The Pelvic Health hub is located in Barry Hospital the first of its kind in Wales, the hub provides a Multi-disciplinary approach to patient care consisting of colorectal Consultants, Urogynae Consultants, Urology Consultants and a Pain Consultant. Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists and clinical co-ordinators.

Main duties of the job

A Pelvic Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a crucial role in the management and care of patients with pelvic health issues. Their main duties include:

  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis where they Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with pelvic health issues, including detailed history taking and physical examinations using diagnostic tools and techniques to identify specific pelvic health problems
  • Develop individualised care plans based on assessment findings and patient needs. Implement and coordinate treatment plans, which may include medication management, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and education.
  • Assist in or perform specialised procedures such as catheterisations, pessary fittings, and pelvic floor muscle training and advise on conservative and lifestyle management for bowel dysfunction, Pelvic Floor Biofeedback, Rectal irrigation and Sacral Nerve Modulation.
  • Patient Education and Support is a vital part of the CNS role in educating patients and their families about pelvic health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies, whilst offering emotional support and counselling to help patients cope with their conditions.
  • Identify the need for and facilitate referrals to other specialists or services, such as urology, gynaecology, or colorectal surgery.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain expertise in pelvic health.
