Job summary
This post holders will act as the deputy to the Team Lead Perioperative Care, regularly taking charge of the clinical area and ensuring the standards and quality of care given to patients and clients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, and maintained at a high standard.
The post holders will be effective leaders and role models and will be expected to provide direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
The post holders will work flexibly as members of the care team and in support of the Team Lead - Perioperative Care to ensure standards are maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved.

Maintain Clinical knowledge and skills by undertaking clinical duties within the team to provide expert advice, support and leadership within the clinical area.
Staff working within the Perioperative Care Directorate are expected to support and attend all areas within the Directorate. Staff will be required to provide cross-site cover using their own/public transport.
Staff within the Perioperative Directorate are expected to support the Emergency/Major Trauma stream. This may include providing 24-hour cover in the CEPOD/Major Trauma theatres or providing an on-call service when required.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced Nurse or ODP Scrub Practitioner. Main Theatres in the Peri-Operative Care Directorate at University Hospital of Wales are looking to recruit 2 full time Band 6 Deputy Clinical Leaders, one for Vascular/General Surgery and another for Upper GI/Lower GI and HPB.
The successful candidates will support the Clinical Leader to be responsible for the professional leadership and management of the General Surgery teams within Main Theatres. We are looking for experienced Nurses or ODP Scrub Practitioners with a passion for Surgery and a strong leadership background.
They will have a focus on supporting the Clinical Leader in ensuring efficient, safe patient care across the theatre suite and take ownership for governance arrangements and financial accountability. The development and strengthening of our exceptional clinical workforce will be key responsibility for the role.
The successful candidates must possess excellent organisational, problem solving and communication skills. They must be capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines and have the ability to confidently engage with colleagues at all levels of the organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
