Job summary

The band 7 Nurse Informatics CNS is a new role within Cardiff and Vale due to Welsh Government funding for the implementation of an electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) system. The ePMA system will replace the current paper based medication charts. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the biggest digital transformation to happen within the UHB to date. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with a passion for improving patient safety through the use of a digital system.

The ePMA system will reduce the number of prescribing and administration errors, allow improved communication between teams and reduce the harm caused to patients. It will transform the way that nurses and midwives administer medication, making current practice more efficient. As the nursing and midwifery workforce will be the biggest users of the system you will play a key role in the planning of staff engagement sessions, training and support in the clinical areas for all staff groups when the system is rolled out.

The role will also involve contributing towards the way in which the system is configured for the nursing and midwifery workforce and play a key part in user acceptability testing to ensure the system suits the needs of nurses, midwives and the wider MDT.

Please ensure you have agreement from current line manager to be released for the secondment.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide effective clinical leadership and management to motivate and support nurses and midwives working in the UHB ensuring a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of the electronic prescribing and administration system.

This is an opportunity to support the ePMA team in ensuring the highest standard of nursing and midwifery care is provided, monitored and evaluated through the use of a digital system. This will include the opportunity to contribute towards the way in which the system is configured to ensure efficiency in nursing and midwifery work streams.

The post holder will promote effective communication with the clinical teams across the clinical boards and agencies. They will contribute towards teaching digital skills and share professional knowledge when delivering informal and formal presentations for clinical staff.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 11 months to meet the needs of the service.

If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
