Job summary

Applications are invited from Sonographers for the post within the busy Radiology Directorate of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The Directorate currently provides an ultrasound service within the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough.

The health board delivers a comprehensive range of sonography services including obstetrics, gynae, general, small parts, paediatrics and musculoskeletal ultrasound. The UHW department consists of 8 rooms, one of which is a dedicated paediatric room, with out reach clinics in Antenatal and Fetal Medicine. The Ultrasound department at Llandough consists of 3 general rooms with a further 2 rooms in Antenatal clinic and 1 in Orthopaedics.

The health board has fully integrated RIS/PACS and is filmless across all specialities. A digital dictation system is used for on line reporting.

The successful candidate will be based in the University Hospital of Wales and support the service at the University Hospital Llandough .

Applications are invited from sonographers who hold the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, motivated and be able to work in both small teams and the wider Directorate structure. Role extension, CPD and further postgraduate training are encouraged and supported.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality images in accordance with Regulations and departmental protocols and procedures.

To be proficient in ultrasound scanning techniques and provide independent ultrasound reports to referring clinicians.

To provide comprehensive and effective day to day ultrasound services within the Radiology Directorate.

Plan and prioritise workload in area of responsibility.

To ensure that the daily workload is completed in an efficient manner and that all patients are well cared for.

To contribute to service development.
