Job summary
Applications are invited for a full-time Locum Consultant Paediatric Intensivist to join the PICU team based at the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff.Cardiff's Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) is based in the Children's Hospital for Wales. Cardiff Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has seven beds and is the only children's intensive care unit located within Wales and accepts children requiring intensive care from all of Mid and South Wales. Cardiff paediatric high dependency unit (HDU) has four beds and provides high dependency care to all the tertiary specialties housed in the Children's Hospital for Wales.
Main duties of the job
Retrieval, education and audit both for the Unit and as part of the clinical network are major parts of the service and Consultants are expected to participate fully in their delivery with part of this post being based at WATCh (Wales and West Acute Transport for Children) headquarters in Bristol, delivering children from the region into both Cardiff and Bristol PICU's.This appointment comes at an exciting time as Cardiff recently became the Major Trauma Centre for Wales.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £105,401 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
